Not only is Fargo 'green,' but there's more to recommend it

Fargo, N.D., one of the most inland cities in the US, may be far removed from the megalopolises on either coast, but it's gaining a reputation for its environmental friendliness that many of them do not match. In a ranking of the nation's largest cities by the Earth Day Network, Fargo (pop. roughly 91,000) was No. 1. The organization's Urban Environment Report looked at conditions in seven categories, including air quality, toxics and waste, and drinking and surface water. Fargo is making its mark in other areas as well and has been named one of the best places to live, to raise a family, to work, and to do business by Forbes magazine. Being "green," of course, helps in these latter departments. The cities that the Earth Day Network rates highest for environmental quality:
