The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker is a highly original and beautifully written book. It is a fascinating blend of historical fiction and fantasy. This book brings to life turn-of-the-century Manhattan and Jewish and Arab folklore in a way that weaves together a story that is unforgettable. It is writing at its best and is my favorite summer read.
