Midnight in Peking: How the Murder of a Young Englishwoman Haunted the Last Days of Old China by Paul French is a fascinating account of the murder of Pamela Werner in 1937. The police were unable to solve this crime, and the case was closed. Pamela's father, E.T.C. Werner, then began his own private investigation. The author's research led him to agree with Mr. Werner's conclusion as to the person or persons responsible for his daughter's murder.
