Maisie Dobbs, by Jacqueline Winspear, is the story of a maid in pre-World-War-I-era Britain, who becomes a "psychologist and investigator" when her potential is discovered by her employers and she is sent to college. This is a sensitive and atmospheric love story and a mystery that paints a graphic picture of the horrors of the war which was to "end all wars."
