Savage Peace by Ann Hagedorn offers a fine reappraisal of Woodrow Wilson. Hagedorn shows Wilson to be a hypocritical racist and sexist who took the US into World War I to "make the world safe for democracy" even as he stubbornly refused to support equal rights for women at home and refused to use the resources of the US government to stop racial discrimination and lynchings directed against African Americans. Wilson also supported the arrests and deportations of some US citizens who opposed his decision to send American troops to Russia where they were placed under British command and used to intervene against Red forces in the Russian Civil War.
