If you liked "The Burgess Boys" by Elizabeth Strout, then you will enjoy learning even more about the high school soccer/football rivalry between Lewiston and Auburn, Me., by reading Out of Nowhere by Maria Padian. The book's Somali protagonist is an athlete that all admire. The teams and their coaches approach differences and handle conflict while the girls on the sidelines are not really on the sidelines. A nearby women's college also plays a pivotal role in this young adult  novel that works for grown ups too.
