The premise of Combined Destinies: Whites Sharing Grief About Racism, edited by Ann Todd Jealous and Caroline T. Haskell, is explained by Jealous, mother of NAACP president Benjamin Todd: “racism has made us all its victims.” Jealous and Haskell write: “Unless we all do whatever we can to eradicate it, racism will continue to undermine human decency and goodwill.” The 197-page book has over 50 contributors, including an Episcopal priest, a social worker, and a teacher. This is a deeply moving book.
