Soprano Barbara Hendricks’s memoir, Lifting My Voice, looks back on her distinguished career singing mostly in Europe, from childhood in segregated Arkansas to decades as Good Will Ambassador for the UN Human Rights Commission. It’s beautifully written and organized, a pleasure to read.
