I don’t know when I’ve had my mind turned around so much as when I was reading Neither Wolf Nor Dog: On Forgotten Roads with an Indian Elder by Kent Nerburn. At the request of a Lakota Elder, the author spent weeks on a reservation in South Dakota recording the wisdom of this old man and trying to bridge the gap between the worlds of the Indian and non-Indian.
