The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
May 15, 2009
I've been reading Agatha Christie's The Murder of Roger Ackroyd again. There is something comforting about returning to the 20th-century master of the mystery genre. Sure, she may not be the greatest writer (i.e., she has plenty of critical detractors), but no one can deny that she knew how to write books that people would buy and read (and read decades later), and that is perhaps more important than so-called "literary" quality. In any event, an evening with Dame Agatha Christie and Hercule Poirot is a wonderful escape from the realities of 2009. Next, after this Poirot adventure, I think I will be getting on board the Orient Express for more Poirot adventure. (Again, it certainly beats listening to the news on television!)
