I am currently reading the Canadian novel Annabel by Kathleen Winter. "Annabel" is about a child who is born into the wilds of overtly male Labrador hunting families, but who is neither boy nor girl, but both. He is raised as a boy named Wayne, but "re-invents" himself as Annabel when he moves to St. John's, Newfoundland. The books brings up many issues of gender, acceptance, and allegiances in a satisfying, not sensationalistic, manner.
