Paul Revere and the World He Lived In by Esther Forbes, published in 1942, is a rambling account of Boston in the 1700s and early 1800s – and, of course, Paul Revere. Although Forbes doesn’t exactly get at who Paul Revere was as a person the way that David McCullough did for John Adams in his biography, she definitely covers the world he lived in, in depth. Great book, lots of fun. It reads like a gossip column.
