Female vs. male readers: Anything he can read, she can read better

This is the conclusion of a survey of 2,000 British readers reported by the Guardian, which states that,"Women know how to read properly, while men have a desultory and, at best, casual approach to books."

According to survey results, women are more apt to be "avid readers who cannot put a book down once they begin it" and who "reliably get through a long list of titles in an average year." Men, instead, read at a slower pace and are twice as likely as women to fail to finish a book.

The survey also divides readers into different categories. There is the Page Turner (the avid reader described above), the Slow Worm (who plods a bit pace-wise but who takes reading very seriously), the Serial Shelver (those who like to buy books more than they care to actually read them), and the Double Booker (those who can't finish one book before starting another.)

In the realm of the Double Booker, at least, men and women find common ground: 12% of both men and women fall into this category.
