“The Kite Runner” author Khaled Hosseini will release a new novel this May, according to publisher Riverhead Books.
The book, which will be titled “And the Mountains Echoed,” will focus on family, a theme Hosseini said he is continuing from his two previous bestsellers “Runner” and “A Thousand Splendid Suns.”
“My new novel is a multi-generational family story as well, this time revolving around brothers and sisters, and the ways in which they love, wound, betray, honor, and sacrifice for each other,” Hosseini said in a statement.
Hosseini’s first book, “The Kite Runner,” came out in 2003, and his follow-up, “A Thousand Splendid Suns,” was released in 2007. Both focused on citizens of Afghanistan, were well-received critically and sold millions of copies. “The Kite Runner” was adapted into a 2007 film starring actor Khalid Abdalla which received mixed reviews; “A Thousand Splendid Suns” is set to be turned into a film by Columbia Pictures in 2015, with “Schindler’s List” screenwriter Steven Zaillian set to write the screenplay and direct.
“And the Mountains Echoed” will come out May 21.
