Author Judy Blume will reportedly publish a new book for adults in 2015, her first for an adult audience in more than 15 years and her first book overall since 2009.
Blume released the adult book “Summer Sisters” in 1998, and Blume’s editor Carole Baron told the New York Times that the new novel is “pure Judy Blume, writing about family and about friendships, about love, about betrayal. It’s quintessential Judy.”
The writer said in a statement that she is “both thrilled and terrified, my usual feelings at this point. I’ll be hiding out this summer revising, my favorite part of the process.”
Blume’s last work was the book for younger readers titled “Friend or Fiend? with the Pain and the Great One,” which came out in 2009.
The author’s other books for adults include “Smart Women” and “Wifey,” while her books for younger readers include the classics “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” “Blubber,” and the “Fudge” series.
Last summer, Blume was the honoree of the holiday “Blumesday,” which was created by authors Joanna Miller and Heather Larimer in imitation of the “Bloomsday” celebration that James Joyce fans hold on the day on which Joyce’s novel “Ulysses” takes place. This year, Blumesday festivities were once again held in Portland, Ore., on June 17.
