Syfy is reportedly moving forward with a TV pilot based on Lev Grossman’s novel “The Magicians.”

“Magicians” is the first in a planned trilogy by Grossman – the first book was followed by “The Magician King” and the third book, “The Magician’s Land,” is set to be released on Aug. 5. The series follows a teenager, Quentin, who is selected to attend a magic college but soon learns that the world he has entered may be more complicated than he realized.

According to Deadline, “Magicians” almost came to TV before now – Fox acquired a possible TV series based on the book in 2011, but the project didn’t move forward.

The pilot was written by John McNamara, a writer for the NBC series “Prime Suspect” and the ABC show “The Fugitive,” among others, and Sera Gamble, a writer for the CW show “Supernatural.”
