Author Chuck Palahniuk reveals more details about his 'Fight Club' sequel
Palahniuk is writing a sequel to his 1996 novel that will be in graphic novel form and released in 10 parts.
Author Chuck Palahniuk recently revealed more details about his upcoming graphic novel sequel series to his 1996 novel “Fight Club.”
As we reported last year, Palahniuk discussed the new works on his website and said the story would be taking place 10 years after the events of “Club.” (Spoilers for “Club” follow).
“Tyler is telling the story, lurking inside Jack, and ready to launch a come-back,” he wrote. “Jack is oblivious. Marla is bored. Their marriage has run aground on the rocky coastline of middle-aged suburban boredom. It’s only when their little boy disappears, kidnapped by Tyler, that Jack is dragged back into the world of Mayhem. It will, of course, be dark and messy.”
Palahniuk said at the time that a publisher for the series had not yet been decided and that the story could come out before 2015 if his book publisher was on board with the idea. However, according to USA Today, Dark Horse Comics is now the publisher releasing the work and the 10-issue story will debut in May of next year. It will be illustrated by Cameron Stewart.
The author told USA Today a little more about the story – namely that the reader will find out more about Tyler Durden.
“Tyler is something that maybe has been around for centuries and is not just this aberration that's popped into his mind,” Palahniuk said of the narrator.
He said Project Mayhem, the initiative launched in the first “Fight Club,” will also make a return in the new story.
“He tries to go back and reclaim that phase of his life, and is just a pathetic failure," Palahniuk said. "He's not that person anymore. But beyond that, it's what the organization has grown into in his absence and what he's pulled back into.”
“Fight Club” was adapted into a movie starring Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, and Helena Bonham-Carter that was released in 1999.
Meanwhile, Palahniuk’s novel “Beautiful You” is set to be released this October.
