'Shannara' MTV series adds cast members
'The Chronicles of Shannara' will be based on the book series by fantasy writer Terry Brooks.
The MTV adaptation of Terry Brooks’s “Shannara” fantasy series is moving forward.
According to Variety, actor Austin Butler of “The Carrie Diaries” will portray protagonist Wil Ohmsford, who is actually part of the mystical Shannara family. “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” actor Manu Bennett is playing the druid Allanon, while “Down Dog” actress Poppy Drayton will portray the elf Amberle and John Rhys-Davies of the “Lord of the Rings” films is playing the elven king Eventine Elessedil.
The first book in Brooks’s series, “The Sword of Shannara,” was released in the 1970s and multiple series set in the world of “Shannara” have been written by the author. The newest, “The Darkling Child,” is set to be released this June, according to the author’s website.
