The best deals this Cyber Monday include offers that combine free shipping with other discounts – including heavy markdowns on clearance items.
They also include printable coupons and gift cards that can be used in the days ahead.
Here's a quick look at some of the offers with big appeal:
Toys "R" Us. The toy purveyor's one-day sale pitches as much as 70 percent off, plus free shipping. (Like many stores, shipping is free with a minimum purchase amount, in this case about $50). The typical discounts are more in the range of 20 to 25 percent off (everything from Radio Flyers and other ride-ons to toys like Squinkies and Transformers). Buy one video game, get another for 60 percent off.
Staples. This store is facing plenty of competition in the office-goods arena, and for shoppers that means deals Monday. Free shipping on everything (no minimum purchase), and reduced prices ranging from a Brother mobile scanner (for $110) to a Hewlett-Packard 20-inch LCD computer monitor (for $80).
Walmart. Bargains online include a 1,600-piece Lego building set for $40 and a wooden train table for $59. A number of items, like Philips Norelco shavers starting at $28, come with a $10 gift card thrown in.
Amazon. At the ultimate cyber retailer, Cyber Monday means "lightning deals" for people ready to click "purchase" without a second's hesitation. According to Dealnews.com, the aggressively priced items Monday include "HDTVs, laptops, electronics, apparel, jewelry, music, and more. Amazon Prime members qualify for free shipping. Deals starts as late as 10 p.m. ET."
Best Buy. Hot deals range from the big-ticket appliances like washing machines to little Apple iPods (selected models). A $10 gift card will come to you with any purchase over $100 if you pick the item up at the store. If you buy online, all shipping is free.
Coupons. Deals are available at lots of other stores, and often they can come in the form of coupons (either those you print to use at a store, or promotional codes you enter as you make a purchase online). The website Couponology.com has links to the latest deals from a "Cyber Monday" category on its homepage. The discounts you'll see include retailers ranging from Best Buy to Dockers and Diapers.com.
Some of the coupons expire Monday, while others may last a few days or even longer.
The website Fatwallet.com takes note of an option to test out BJ's Wholesale Club, with a printable coupon that provides free trial membership through the end of the year.
