Whoppers may be coming to a sofa near you. That’s right: Burger King now offers delivery. The fast food house calls are currently in market testing, available out of four Burger King locations in the Washington, D.C., area. That number will jump to 16 locations by Jan. 23, according to Burger King Corp.

And the Miami-based company is hinting broadly that it could roll out the program nationally. If it does, it would be the first US fast-food chain to do so.

Home delivery is relatively uncharted territory for big fast-food chains. McDonald’s offers delivery services only in New York City. But Burger King has delivered for years in other countries, including Mexico, Turkey, Brazil, Columbia, and Peru.

Tracing fentanyl’s path into the US starts at this port. It doesn’t end there.

For a minimum purchase of between $8 and $10 (depending on the location) and a $2 delivery charge, customers within a 10-minute drive can get most of the Burger King menu delivered to their doorstep. The food comes in thermal heated bags and is available between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m., according to the company’s delivery website.

Some menu items are unavailable for delivery, including fountain sodas, ICEE drinks, breakfast items, coffees, and milkshakes.

Burger King is the second-largest burger chain in the United States, behind McDonald’s. The home delivery tryout is the latest in a series of moves by the company to distinguish itself from a slew of formidable competitors, including Wendy’s and Five Guys Burgers and Fries.

In August, Burger King revamped its ad campaign, getting rid of the “king” mascot. The chain has also reworked its French fries as part of a gradual menu makeover. (New health-minded options like fruit-topped oatmeal have been added). High-tech Coke Freestyle fountain soda machines were also installed in most Burger King locations last year.
