Unlike many of the wild supercars sold overseas that never make it to U.S. shores, Koenigsegg’s various products have made the trip, with the first example, a CCX, actually landing as far back as 2006. Koenigsegg is now further solidifying its presence in the world’s biggest market for supercars by appointing New York dealership Manhattan Motorcars as its main point of sale for America’s northeast.
Manhattan Motorcars, already a seller of Bugattis, Lamborghinis and Porsches, will now start stocking Koenigseggs. The first model on offer will be the latest Agera R, which made its North American debut at the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. At the time, Koenigsegg revealed that the Agera R would cost about $1.5 million.
Power in the Agera R comes from a twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V-8, which is rated at 960 horsepower on regular pump gas or up to 1,140 hp when running on E85 fuel. That much power translates to a power-to-weight ratio of just 2.6 pounds per horsepower, which is why the Agera R dishes out 0-60 mph times of 2.9 seconds (with launch control) and is claimed to be able to reach a top speed of 273 mph--5 mph more than the fastest Veyron.
Unfortunately, Manhattan Motorcars is unlikely to have the brand new One:1 in stock, which has even more power and thus greater performance. Koenigsegg is only build six of the beasts, and all are already spoken for.
“We are truly delighted by the opportunity to work with such a passionate and well respected dealer like Manhattan Motorcars,” Koenigsegg CEO and founder Christian von Koenigsegg said in a statement. “We will do our outmost to support Manhattan Motorcars in the best possible way and are looking forward to a fruitful long-term relationship.”
Anyone heading to next month’s 2014 New York Auto Show should keep an eye out for Manhattan Motorcars’ stand where a Koenigsegg Agera R will be on display.
