2016 Chevy Silverado 1500 gets sporty new look, more tech
Chevrolet will give its hot-selling Silverado 1500 pickup a facelift and several new mechanical features for 2016.

A new generation of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was launched on the market for the 2014 model year, bringing with it an upright, chiseled look on the outside; the new K2XX rear-wheel-drive platform under the skin; and quieter, more refined cabins with a noteworthy set of safety and infotainment technology for occupants to enjoy.
The full-size pickup was voted North American Truck of the Year on its debut, and so far it’s been enjoying strong sales, even with the Ford Motor Company’s [NYSE:F]aluminum-bodied F-150 arriving on the scene. Silverado sales are up 14.6 percent through June, according to General Motors Company [NYSE:GM] figures.
Not one to rest on its laurels, the Chevy Trucks division is embarking on an aggressive strategy to build on the current momentum of its full-size pickup’s sales performance. For the 2016 model year, the Silverado 1500 wears a new face that loses the dual-unit headlights of the current version, and on some models there’s less chrome brightwork.

There are mechanical changes, too, with Chevy confirming the expanded use of eight-speed automatic transmissions in the range. And for the interior, the 2016 Silverado 1500 will feature an updated Chevy MyLink infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration. A few new safety features will also be included.
Full details will be announced closer to the vehicle’s sales launch this fall. Expect the vehicle’s corporate cousin, the GMC Sierra 1500, to also adopt many of the updates.
Other changes include the use of eight-speed automatic transmissions on more configurations, the latest Chevy MyLink infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, and more safety tech. Full details will be announced closer to the market launch this fall.
