Patriots fans dreaming of attending the Super Bowl should be careful about travel scams, false promises and misleading offers.
That's the message in an advisory by state officials Monday, one day after New England won the AFC championship to earn a spot in the Feb. 5 game in Indianapolis against the New York Giants.
Undersecretary of Consumer Affairs Barbara Anthony said fans should carefully review travel packages advertised online and make sure tickets and accommodations are fully guaranteed.
The advisory urged fans to only buy tickets from legitimate, licensed resellers, and to be wary of ads posted on sites such as Craigslist or eBay.
The office cited one online package, starting at nearly $5,000, advertising a hotel "minutes" from downtown Indianapolis. The hotel was, in fact, 17 miles from the stadium.
