Small Business Saturday is different this year

Small Business Saturday traditionally has been a great time for American Express cardholders to get discounts to patronize their favorite small businesses, but the offers have changed somewhat for this year.

In the past, Small Business Saturday has been a great opportunity the day after Black Friday to save up to $20 off any purchase of $20 or more at your favorite small business by using your American Express card.  This year, though, those discounts are going away, and you're now targeted for specific offers.

Some people will be offered $10 off a Small Business of their choosing, but others are out of luck (like me). However, there are other offers out there that are available to everyone with an American Express card.

First, sign into your account and find the offers tab. You'll see various offers available to you, one of which could be the Small Business Saturday offer. One available to everyone is $20 off $199 or more spent at Best Buy. This offer is great, because this is in addition to any other savings you might already be using, like coupons or sale items. Other offers include those from Diapers.com and Samsonite. My targeted offers include $10 off $50 or more at Olive Garden, a restaurant I've never eaten at.

My muddle to mediocrity: When good enough is good enough

So, while Small Business Saturday has changed a bit from last year (which was already diluted), it's still available to some of you! Were you targeted?
