  • General sales are more likely to show up on Cyber Monday.
  • Cyber Monday will have more variety in high-end store sales than Black Friday.

Below is a more in-depth look at all the predictions.

When to Shop

Black Friday Lead-Up Brings the Deals

Expect to see a few pre-Black Friday sales as early as a week before Thanksgiving. Last year we saw a couple of stores gearing up the Thursday before Turkey Day, and they were definitely worth shopping. One Editors' Choice pick at JCPenney took up to 77% off boots and shoes, with extra savings of 15% or 30%.

Deals will build in volume and quality up through Black Friday, dip during the weekend, and spike again on Cyber Monday.

However, the deals really start to kick in the Monday before Black Friday. There was a significant lull in shoe deals the weekend before the shopping holiday, but on Monday there was a noticeable jump. Deals will build in volume and quality up through Black Friday itself.

There's likely to be a sharp drop in the number of deals on Saturday. Deals pick up again on Sunday, though, and jump again on Cyber Monday. From there, many offers will taper off by the end of the week.

What to Buy

Boots Are Best at Kohl's

Boots were incredibly popular during Black Friday last year. They accounted for about 27% of the deals we saw during Black Friday week, with 6% of them qualifying as Editors' Choice.

This year, we expect to see a number of deals from Kohl's. These are also likely to be some of the better offerings, due to coupons paired with Kohl's Cash rewards. One of the best deals we saw last year was three pairs of boots for $50, which also earned $15 Kohl's Cash and qualified for free shipping. This year, look to Kohl's for kids' Sonoma Life + Style boots from around $13, women's SO boots from $17, and men's Rock & Republic or Sonoma boots from $21.

Athletic Shoes Sport Savings

Last year, athletic shoes accounted for 27% of the shoe deals during Black Friday week. They were also more likely to bag an Editors' Choice rating than boots, with 8% earning that distinction. This year, expect to see deals on kids' shoes starting around $17 at stores like Puma, women's athletic shoes from $21 at Reebok, and men's athletics from $17 at Joe's New Balance.

Athletic shoes accounted for 27% of the deals during Black Friday week. They were also more likely to bag an Editors' Choice rating than boots.

The best deals will include two pairs of top brands like adidas or New Balance, coupled with a free shipping offer and stacking coupons. Last year, we saw this deal at Kohl's, with two pairs for around $50, which also earned $15 Kohl's Cash and bagged free shipping. Last year, we also saw BOGO free sneakers at Sears; however, with recent store closings, this deal might not be repeated in 2016.

Late-Summer Casual Styles Still Hanging Around

As the weather cools, it's a great time to score summer fashions on clearance. Last year, this category accounted for about 9% of the deals during Black Friday week. Look for boat shoes at Sperry from $24, loafers at Crocs from $25, espadrilles at Sperry from $21, Havaianas flip flops as low as $9 at Barneys, and Ralph Lauren lace-ups at stores like Macy's for around $20.

Where to Shop

Pick Your Style, Pick Your Price

Kohl's will be one of the best stores to check out, not just for the sheer number and quality of deals, but also because of stacking coupons and Kohl's Cash rewards.

Other stores to keep an eye on are Rockport, Stride Rite, and Famous Footwear, which are all likely to have their best sales of the year, possibly even since last Black Friday.

Timberland is likely to have a notable coupon discount in addition to its ongoing sale and free shipping. Last year, its Black Friday deal was the best discount we'd seen for the year. Crocs is also worth watching since it's likely to have a higher number of deals on both Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

And if you're on the hunt for quality athletic shoes, keep an eye out for Reebok — last year it had tons of deals during both Black Friday and Cyber Monday weeks.
