Let's all have a moment of silence for the death of the annual JCPenney Black Friday Disney snow globe giveaway. When the doors to the JCP Black Friday sale open at 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, there will be no free snow globes waiting to be distributed. But what's replacing them might actually be worth skipping the political debate at the Thanksgiving table for.
The 2016 JCPenney Black Friday ad leaked last night, and sadly for snow globe enthusiasts, there's a new deal in town. Instead of receiving a collectible glass bauble, early sale-goers will get a mystery gift card with a value of either $10 off $10, $100 off $100 or $500 off $500, valid between 11/24 and 12/24.
So what should you spend your early bird sale vouchers on? We're glad you asked. We combed through the ad and pulled out 11 of our favorite deals, here they are, in no particular order:
Anchor Hocking 24-Piece OR 10-Piece Pyrex Storage Set -- $10 after $15 mail-in rebate (was $56)
Last year this deal only applied to the Pyrex, and was priced at $12, so the addition of the 24-piece Anchor Hawking option makes this a serious bargain. Pyrex is a great brand, but when it comes to food storage, more beats brand name every time. If you've been looking to jumpstart your health and save money on food in 2017, this is a great way to make sure your leftovers stay fresh.
Sharper Image Bluetooth Tailgate Speaker with Microphone -- $49.99 (was $120)
We've never seen anything like this cute portable speaker, which rolls around like a little suitcase and can wirelessly connect to your phone via Bluetooth. Wheel it to a tailgate, an outdoor party or a day by the pool, relax, and blast all your favorite tunes.
Assorted Cooks Small Kitchen Electronics -- $4.99 (was $20-$40)
Kohl's has a similar deal, that's actually a little better when you apply the Kohl's Cash and Yes2You Rewards they offer. Still, $4.99 for a crock pot, a blender or a toaster is a steal. We expect to see other major retailers following suit on these prices as well. This is a new deal this year, the lowest price on these items in the 2015 Black Friday ad was $7.99.
Curve Memory Foam Pillow -- $10 (was $40)
As someone with chronic neck pain, I can only get a good night's sleep when I'm using one of these pillows. Sadly, I only have one, because who can afford to spend $40 on a pillow? $10 is an amazing price for such an invaluable object, and I know I'll be loading up my cart with these bad boys come Black Friday! This deal was the same in 2015, and I'm crossing my fingers it comes back with a vengeance in 2017.
Samsung Addwash Front-Load Washer/Dryer -- $744 each (was $1,299)
There are a wide assortment of washer/dryers deals in this ad, most of which you can check out on page 17. These ones are on the higher end, both price and quality-wise. At almost half off, if you've been looking to upgrade your laundry experience, this deal isn't one to miss.
St. John's Bay Faux-Fur Trim Puffer Coat -- $29 (was $150)
The polar vortex is slated to make another appearance this winter, so if your coat is worn out from the last one, snatch this one up, pronto. $29 for a $150 coat is a great deal, and with four stylish colors to choose from, this is actually a coat your teenager might wear.
Easy-Care Dress Shirt -- $9 (was $36)
For $9, you can never have enough wrinkle-resistant dress shirts. Buy a bunch and keep some stashed in your desk drawer for coffee spill-related emergencies and impromptu after-work dinner dates. This is $0.99 cheaper than it was last year.
Disney Collection Figures -- $9 (was $18)
With an assortment of plush and classic dolls from movies like Snow White, the upcoming Moana, and, of course Frozen, you'll find something for every kind of kid for half the price of what you'd normally spend on these toys.
60% off Boys & Girls Apparel
Kids grow up quickly, which is why you should never buy their clothes at full price. Stock up on a new wardrobe that will actually fit (for a few months, at least) while the prices are this low.
Assorted Women's Boots -- $19.99 (was $60-$90)
Another repeat deal from 2016, this one begs the question can you have too many boots? My sagging shoe rack says yes, but my heart says no. At $20 a pop, you can mix and match styles for every kind of event!
i.CHI Flat Iron -- $59.99 (was $129.99)
I adore my I.CHI flat iron, but I spent a pretty penny on it. That said, that penny was spent about eight years ago, and this straightener still works like new. This is a great deal on a quality piece of hair-care hardware that will stand the test of time, and it's also $10 cheaper than the $69.99 they were charging for it during the 2015 Black Friday sale.
While these prices aren't anything spectacular, and -- in our opinion -- pale in comparison to the savings you'll get on similar items at Kohl's, the potential $500 gift cards early birds will get might just be worth a Thanksgiving trip to JCP.
