Secret menu at McDonalds? Shhhhh.

Secret menu? While McDonald's position is that there isn't an official secret menu, it is true that customers can have special orders and alterations. 

The mythical “secret menu” at McDonald’s may be far from a myth.   

During a recent Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) session, an anonymous McDonald’s manager from Glasgow revealed that customers can order a range of food hacks from a secret menu, including the extravagant “Land, Sea and Air” burger.

“Have you ever wondered exactly how your fast food is made? Or what it’s like to work for one of the biggest food giants in the world?” user OrchidHibiscus wrote, offering to answer a broad range of McDonald's-related questions.

One user on Reddit asked: “Can you confirm the validity of the ‘Secret Menu’?”

The manager, whose Reddit name is OrchidHibiscus wrote:

‘You can order from the ‘Secret Menu.’ Just like with any of our sandwiches, you can add, remove or change ingredients by special request. These are called ‘grill orders’ (i.e. Big Mac no pickle)

The items on the ‘secret menu’ weren’t invented by anyone officially at McDonald’s, it’s just a random persons guide to burgers you could potentially ‘hack’ at McDonald’s.

Order one and the workers might not know it by name (i.e. Land, Air and Sea burger or the McGangBang) but if you explain what it is, and are willing to pay for all the ingredients, it’s just another ‘grill order’ that we can make up.’

McDonald's however, says that there is no official secret menu. "Actually, our customers are pretty clever when it comes to customizing their orders with our menu items, so you may have seen some of their creations online," the company has said on its website since at least 2014.  

"But," the company goes on, "we have no official secret menu of our own."

“We do not have a secret menu at McDonald’s UK. That’s because we love the food that we serve in our restaurants and we don’t want to keep it a secret from our customers," McDonald's spokesperson told Mashable. The company however admits that, customers can ask for alterations. “Any requests for extra items or changes to our products are considered at the restaurant manager’s discretion and any additional items may be charged for.”

Secret menus in major chain restaurants have become more widespread and a lot less secret in recent years, thanks to fans who share the information on online in forums and at sites like hackthemenu.com, reported The Christian Science Monitor.  According to the report, chains will publicly deny the existence of secret menu items while quietly encouraging people to go ahead and order them.
