Every week, Monitor staffers comb the job listings in search of interesting places to work. The most intriguing jobs we found this week are in Portland, Ore.; Canton, N.Y.; San Diego; Newnan, Ga.; Woodbridge, Va.; Arlington, Wash.; Santa Fe, N.M.; Malibu, Calif.; and Pikeville, Ky.

1. Yacht rigger
Employer: Schooner Creek Boat Works
Wages/salary: $14 to $22 an hour
Details: Perform rigging work on a wide variety of vessels as well as troubleshoot and repair mast wiring and electronics for a pleasure boat repair company. (For more information click here.)
Location: Portland, Ore. (pop. 541,550; median family income $59,748) is known as the City of Roses and this year’s annual Festival of Roses kicked off Memorial Day weekend and runs for three weeks.

2. Assistant college alpine ski coach
Employer: St. Lawrence University
Wages/salary: $10,450
Details: Assist with the day-to-day operation of a Division III intercollegiate ski team, including assuming some of the recruiting and administrative duties. (For more information, click here.)
Location: Canton, N.Y. (pop. 10,334; median family income $43,819), near the St. Lawrence Seaway, takes its name from Canton, China. It apparently was so named by state land commissioners in 1787 interested in trade routes to the Orient.

3. Campus fire marshal
Employer: University of California, San Diego
Wages/salary: Not listed
Details: Manages fire prevention and life safety for all existing campus buildings. Supervises fire evacuation exercises and fire drills and reviews plans for large public events. (For more information, click here.)
Location: San Diego (pop. 1.264,263; median family income $72,407), California’s second-largest city, boasts several attractions for family vacationers, including 70 miles of beaches, the renowned San Diego Zoo, and LEGOLAND California.

4. Belly dance instructor
Employer: One Word Productions
Wages/salary: under $10,000

Location: Newnan, Ga. (pop. 21,963; median family income $55,399) is situated 25 miles southwest of Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, one of the world’s busiest international airports.

5. Bridal consultant
Employer: David’s Bridal
Wages/salary: Not listed
Details: Work with brides to make their day truly special, assisting with head-to-toe dressing, alterations, financing options, gown preservation, and coordinating ensembles for the entire bridal party for a nationwide bridal retailer. (For more information, click here.)
Location: Woodbridge, Va. (pop. 31,416; median family income $70,766) is home to the Potomac Mills Mall, perhaps the nation’s largest outlet mall.

6. Bird-care attendant
Employer: Sarvey Wildlife Care Center
Wages/salary: $8.55 an hour
Details: Feed and clean all baby birds, monitoring the bird’s health conditions for a facility that rehabilitates injured and orphaned wildlife. (For more information, click here.)
Location: Arlington, Wash. (pop. 15,000; median family income $51,941) is expected to double in size by 2025, partly because of its proximity to Seattle.

7. Cultural landscape inventory coordinator
Employer: National Parks Service (Intermountain Regional Office)
Wages/salary: $67,613 to $87,893
Details: Support staff from regional parks with the identification, documentation, analysis, evaluation, treatment, and interpretation of cultural landscapes. Mostly office work, but occasionally requires on-site inspections in the field. (For more information, click here.)
Location: Santa Fe, N.M. (pop. 65,163; median family income $61,151) is the nation’s oldest and highest state capital. Founded in 1607, it sits 7,000 feet above sea level in the foothills of the southern Rocky Mountains.

8. Senior toy packaging/logo designer
Employer: Volt Services Group
Wages/salary: Not listed

Location: Malibu, Calif. (pop. 12,575; median family income $123,293) is famous as a tony, coastal community west of Los Angeles where many well-heeled Hollywood entertainers establish residence.

9. Landman (coal)
Employer: EQT Corporation
Wages/salary: Not listed
Details: Obtain approvals from coal owners and their lessees for proposed natural gas wells and pipelines. Job entails preparing well-spot maps and pipeline route exhibits for coal companies. (For more information, click here.)
Location: Pikeville, Ky. (pop. 6,295; median family income $36,792) calls itself “The city that moves mountains,” a reference to the fact that it’s home to one of the largest earth-moving projects in history, the Pikeville Cut-Thru, a four-lane highway project that entailed moving 14 million cubic yards of rock and dirt.
