Meet the Nokia Lumia 928. (Psst, it's a lot like the Lumia 920.)

But the Nokia Lumia 928 is exclusive to Verizon Wireless in the US, whereas the Lumia 920 was exclusive to AT&T.

Say hello to the Nokia Lumia 928, which looks a whole lot like the Lumia 920.

Last year, Nokia took the wraps off the Lumia 920, a Windows 8-powered smart phone exclusive to AT&T. This week, Nokia is taking the wraps off the Lumia 928, a Windows 8-powered smart phone exclusive to Verizon Wireless.

Are the Lumia 920 and the Lumia 928 the same phone? No, not exactly. But they are pretty similar, notes ZDNet's Matthew Miller: Both have a 4.5 inch display, 32GB of internal storage, 1GB of RAM, and a 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor. Among the differences? A xenon flash appears on the 928 (very good for indoor photography), as do three next-gen microphones.

The newest Lumia captures "high-end, distortion-free audio even in the noisiest environments," Nokia's Jason Harris wrote in a blog post today. "It doesn’t matter if you’re at a monster truck rally, rock concert or summer party, you’ll have the best audio possible on a mobile with the Nokia Lumia 928 thanks to these high-performance microphones that record sound naturally and distortion-free, up to 140db."

Tracing fentanyl’s path into the US starts at this port. It doesn’t end there.

In addition, the Lumia 928 is (slightly) lighter than the 920, and gets (slighter) better battery life; the display, meanwhile, is OLED, as opposed to the LCD screen on the 920.

The big question, of course, is whether the Lumia 928 will perform well for Nokia and Verizon and Microsoft. Early Lumia 920 sales were strong, but far from the kind of blockbuster numbers that would have propelled Windows Phone 8 up alongside iOS and Android.

Still, in an interview with TechHive, Carolina Milanesi, an analyst at Gartner, expressed some optimism about the 928's chances.

“No vendor can think about being successful in the U.S. without Verizon,” Ms. Milanesi said. “Being on Verizon will certainly make a difference to Nokia. How much of a difference will depend on the level of commitment Verizon shows when it comes to advertising and in-store placement.”
