GameTanium: Verizon rolls out all-you-can-eat gaming service for $6 a month

For $6 a month, GameTanium gives people unlimited access to 100 phone games and 50 tablet games. Verizon says GameTanium works on 30 of its phones.

Verizon has announced the availability of a subscription Android smartphone gaming service called GameTanium. For $5.99 per month, users will have access to more than 100 smartphone offerings and 50 tablet games.

The service is accessible by 30 handsets and two tablet types. These include Android-based phones from Motorola, LG, Samsung and Sony.

The games are offered through the digital entertainment outfit Extent, whose team selects the titles. The games come with parental ratings, user reviews, in-app help, and live customer service. Being subscription-based, they will be free of ads.

Titles include Doodle God, Fruit Ninja, Plants vs. Zombies, Radiant, and World of Goo.

Smartphone use is climbing and mobile-based gaming is climbing along with it. As more users look to their phones to provide a one-stop shop of information and entertainment, it would not be surprising to see more offerings that unite game developers, gaming companies, and service providers.

Interested users can download the app and try out the service for free for a short period before deciding whether to subscribe, via their Verizon account.

GameTanium is already offered by mobile providers outside the U.S., including Tata DOCOMO in India and KT in Korea.
