Duck Dynasty: Willie Robertson for Congress?

Duck Dynasty commander Willie Robertson is on a short list of GOP candidates for Congress in Louisiana. But the Duck Dynasty star is coy, saying "I'm really busy."

Could Duck Commander Willie Robertson soon be delivering a new kind of duck call -- one aimed at his fellow congressmen.

Some Republican operatives are trying to lure Duck Dynasty CEO and "Duck Dynasty" reality-show star Robertson to run for Congress from his home Monroe, La., district as a replacement for retiring Republican Rep. Rodney Alexander.

Alexander is a former Democrat who switched parties in 2004, but his redrawn district is now heavily Democratic.

"My boys want to run Willie Robertson for the seat," the Washington Examiner quoted an adviser to House GOP leadership as saying.

Robertson has repeatedly described himself as a "redneck millionaire."

"Yeah, I mean, I'd consider everything," Robertson told US Weekly. "But you know, at this point in my life, I'm really busy. Maybe we can help the country in some way, get these guys to be more efficient and all that. I don't know. I don't think now is the right time but who knows about one day?"

Web pages for his two shows ( "Duck Dynasty" airs on A&E, "Duck Commander" airs on The Outdoor Channel) describe Robertson as an avid hunter and a prankster but also the family member with a business and degree. They say he took Duck Dynasty from a living room operation to a premier destination for all things outdoors.

While Republican operatives would like to get Robertson to run, they are not at all convinced he would be willing to give up his TV shows and his role as the company's CEO to head to Congress, the Examiner said.

In other Duck Dynasty political news, Willie Robertson will speak to students on Sept. 27 at Liberty University. Robertson will be followed by singer Justin Bieber's mother, Pattie Mallette, on Sept. 30. On Sept. 23, television and film actor Kirk Cameron will speak on campus. Students also will hear from professional surfer Bethany Hamilton, whose story was depicted in the movie "Soul Surfer," on Oct. 16.

The stars will join numerous conservative and Christian speakers in appearing at the weekly addresses to students.
