Monitor film critic Peter Rainer writes, “The most powerful subtext to ‘The Wedding Plan’ is that, for her, Michal’s quest is a test of her religious devotion. This is why the funny scenes in this movie are never really just funny. And there are many funny scenes.” The movie, which has subtitles, is available on DVD and Blu-ray and is rated PG for thematic elements.

An acoustic guitar virtuoso, Towner has held down the folk wing of jazz for nearly half a century, and his deft and lyrical playing is on display once again on My Foolish Heart. It’s a completely solo affair, but a man with such prodigious gifts needs nothing but his hands and heart.

In The Collection, fashion designer Paul Sabine (Richard Coyle) is working in a Paris that is still reeling from World War II. Conflict is also part of the family fashion business as Paul; his wife, Helen (Mamie Gummer); and his brother, Claude (Tom Riley), strive to make their dream of success come true. “The Collection” premières on PBS Oct. 8 at 10 p.m.
