There’s nothing like the discovery of a parallel world to just screw with everything. In the upcoming drama 'Another Earth,' a pair of strangers — she, a budding astrophysicist (Brit Marling, who co-wrote the script), he an accomplished composer (William Mapother) — cross paths with tragic results, on the eve before a new earth is uncovered. And it’s more than just a newly found planet; it’s a duplicate, holding the promise of greater serenity and peace for “other” versions of the people on our earth.

'Another Earth' garnered some attention at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, winning the Special Jury Prize for a dramatic film. While the surface says “sci-fi,” Another Earth is a character study at its core, focusing on a person’s inner universe as much as the potential of the external one.

One of the newest assets to promote 'Another Earth' is the “Meet Your Other You” website, where you can send a message to your “other you,” presumably the one that lives on another Earth (or, perhaps, another consciousness?). And if you’re a fan of parallel universe theory, check out the Fox Searchlight site for the film, where you can dig into a dozen references from brainiacs like Brian Greene (string theory, people!) and Michio Kaku.

'Another Earth' will land in a limited number of US theaters on July 20, 2011.
