Two more actors have joined the group who will appear in the new “Star Wars” film, which is scheduled to be released in December 2015.

Lupita Nyong’o of “12 Years a Slave” and actress Gwendoline Christie of “Game of Thrones” will star in the film, according to Lucasfilm.

“I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII," Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement. "It's thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape.”

Can Syria heal? For many, Step 1 is learning the difficult truth.

Christie and Nyong’o join the cast members who are returning from the original trilogy, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, and Anthony Daniels. Others that are new to the “Star Wars” universe that have already come aboard are Adam Driver of “Girls,” “Lord of the Rings” actor Andy Serkis, Max von Sydow of “The Exorcist,” “Inside Llewyn Davis” actor Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson of “About Time,” “Mr. Selfridge” actress Daisy Ridley, and John Boyega of “Imperial Dreams.”

It’s unknown at this time what role the newbies, including Nyong’o and Christie, will be taking on, though one can presume the “Star Wars” veterans will be playing their old roles again.

Nyong’o won a Best Supporting Actress last year for her feature film debut in the 2013 film “12 Years a Slave,” in which she played the abused slave Patsy alongside actors Chiwetel Ejiofor and Michael Fassbender. Meanwhile, Christie is starring as the warrior Brienne of Tarth on the wildly successful HBO fantasy drama “Game of Thrones” and is set to appear in another lucrative franchise – she’ll reportedly appear as Commander Lyme in the film “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.” Lyme heads up District 13 in the book and, like protagonist Katniss Everdeen, is a former champion of the government’s Hunger Games.

The seventh “Star Wars” film is set to be released on Dec. 18, 2015.
