People's Choice Awards: Here's who took the big prizes

Winners at the 2015 People's Choice Awards included the CBS sitcom 'The Big Bang Theory,' actor Chris Evans, and actress Jennifer Lawrence.

Scientists, actor Robert Downey Jr., and actress Jennifer Lawrence dominated the 2015 People’s Choice Awards, which were held on Jan. 7.

The CBS sitcom “The Big Bang Theory,” which follows a group of scientists and their friends and romantic partners, won awards such as favorite TV show and favorite network TV comedy, with “Theory” actress Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting also winning for favorite comedic TV actress.

Meanwhile, actress Shailene Woodley’s film “The Fault in Our Stars” won the prize for favorite dramatic film and she and actor Theo James won the favorite movie duo prize for their work in the dystopian film. 

The favorite movie prize went to “Maleficent,” the retelling of the “Sleeping Beauty” tale that starred Angelina Jolie (it was also selected as the favorite family movie of the year), and actor Robert Downey Jr. won both the favorite movie actor prize and the favorite dramatic movie actor award. “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay ­– Part 1” actress Jennifer Lawrence took the favorite movie actress prize and the favorite action movie actress prize. 

The favorite action movie award went to “Divergent,” and “22 Jump Street” was chosen as the favorite comedic movie of the year. Adam Sandler and Melissa McCarthy took the favorite comedic movie actor and actress prizes, respectively, while Chloe Grace Moretz of “If I Stay” won the favorite dramatic movie actress award. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” actor Chris Evans won the favorite action movie actor prize, and the movie “Gone Girl” won the favorite thriller movie award. 

Meanwhile, in TV, besides the victories won by “Theory,” winners included “Grey’s Anatomy” taking the favorite network TV drama prize and “The Flash” winning the favorite new TV drama award, with “Jane the Virgin” taking the favorite new TV comedy prize. Chris Colfer of “Glee” won the favorite comedic TV actor prize, and Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey of “Grey’s” took the favorite dramatic TV actor and actress prizes, respectively. The singing competition “The Voice” won the favorite competition TV show award.

For the music categories, Ed Sheeran won the favorite male artist award and Taylor Swift took the favorite female artist prize, while Maroon 5 was selected as the favorite group and Sheeran’s “x” was chosen as the favorite album of the year. Swift’s song “Shake It Off” was selected as the favorite track of the year, while the group 5 Seconds of Summer was chosen as the favorite breakout artist.

Actress Betty White was selected for the favorite TV icon award, while “Gone Girl” actor Ben Affleck received the favorite humanitarian award.
