Which original 'Ghostbusters' star may be filming a cameo for the new movie?

Dan Aykroyd, one of the stars of the original 'Ghostbusters' movies, recently tweeted that he was filming a scene with Kristen Wiig for the upcoming 'Ghostbusters' film. 'Ghostbusters' director Paul Feig previously said, 'Anybody wants to come back I welcome with open arms.'

One Ghostbuster is reportedly returning to his roots.

Actor Dan Aykroyd, who starred in the 1984 comedy classic “Ghostbusters” and its 1989 sequel as Ray Stantz, recently tweeted that he was filming a scene for the new “Ghostbusters” movie. The new film, which is expected to be released in 2016, stars Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy of “Bridesmaids” and “Saturday Night Live” actresses Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.

On July 14, Aykroyd tweeted, “On GB set shooting my scene with funny beautiful Kristen Wiig. Lady GB’s are adorable, hilarious … exhilarating! #ghostbusters”

Democrats begin soul-searching – and finger-pointing – after devastating loss

The tweet was later deleted, but Aykroyd’s representatives reportedly told the media that the actor is indeed involved in the film.

“Spy” director Paul Feig said early on in the process that he would welcome cameos from the original actors, but judging from his remarks, Aykroyd may not be portraying Ray in the scene he was filming. “Those are my comedy heroes,” Feig said of the original “Ghostbusters” actors. “So as far as I’m concerned, anybody wants to come back I welcome with open arms. It would just be in different roles now, but it would be fun to figure out how to do that."

Feig also directed the films “Bridesmaids” and “The Heat,” among others.

The return of Aykroyd is yet another example of a staple of the current reboot trend. In order to reassure fans of the connection to the original successful film, many new versions of old favorites include the original actors appearing in small or large roles.

“Terminator” star Arnold Schwarzenegger is currently starring in the film “Terminator Genisys,” which also includes new actors portraying iconic roles like those of Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese. In addition, the upcoming “Star Wars” movie, “Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens” has not only new cast members like John Boyega and Daisy Ridley but also stars original series actors Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher. Older actors can appear in multiple installments or simply pop up in a single scene and then let the new actors take over.
