ABC is reportedly close to ordering a pilot about the Marvel superhero Mockingbird.
Adrianne Palicki currently stars on the ABC superhero show “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” as Bobbi Morse, who is better known in the comic book world by her superhero moniker of Mockingbird. Actor Nick Blood appears on “S.H.I.E.L.D.” as Lance Hunter, who works for the organization S.H.I.E.L.D. and was once married to Bobbi.
The pilot would reportedly center on Bobbi and Lance. ABC is framing the show as a new project rather than a spin-off of “S.H.I.E.L.D.” The pilot will be titled “Marvel’s Most Wanted.”
The third season of “S.H.I.E.L.D.” is set to debut on Sept. 29.
In the comic books, Mockingbird has been a member of the Avengers and teamed up with such fellow Marvel superheroes as Hawkeye (portrayed in films by Jeremy Renner) and Spider-Man (now played by actor Tom Holland).
Almost all the major networks are airing at least one superhero program. In addition to “S.H.I.E.L.D.,” ABC is moving forward with another season of “Agent Carter,” a program which centers on Peggy Carter, a love interest of superhero Captain America. Fox, meanwhile, is producing another season of “Gotham,” a show set in the “Batman” universe. NBC recently debuted the program “Constantine,” which was about the DC Comics superhero of the same name, but canceled it after one season. Meanwhile, Netflix aired the first season of the well-reviewed Marvel superhero show “Daredevil” earlier this year.
More female superheroes are getting their own projects as well. Besides the possible Mockingbird TV show, the superhero Supergirl is getting her own show this fall on CBS and a movie centering on Wonder Woman is scheduled to hit theaters in 2017. Meanwhile, the female version of the character Captain Marvel will get a movie in 2018.
Marvel is currently the comic book company to beat at the box office, with their movies “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Ant-Man” currently two of the films in the top 15 highest-grossing movies of the year so far. Warner Bros., which releases movies based on DC comic books, is set to launch a major offensive this March with the movie “Batman v Superman,” which will feature the return of actor Henry Cavill as Superman and mark the first appearances of Ben Affleck as Batman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman as well as other characters.
