A royal baby and 'Cake Middleton'

By George, it's a boy! The world sends congratulations to Will and Kate with edible delights.

When the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced that they had named their baby boy George Alexander Louis, the world went wild. Or so it seemed. Whether it was tweets, T-shirts, or doughnuts the arrival of the next heir to the British throne was cause for celebration.

In the food world, it ran the gamut from a sculpture cake to a margherita pizza. Limited edition royal cheese? That's rolling your way, too.

'Cake Middleton'

People always say babies are sweet enough to eat, but would you really want to? Nadine Moon, of Houston, created a 6-foot-tall cake homage to the royal mother holding her boy George. Ms. Moon, a cake designer, has also made cakes for Michael Jordan's and Charles Barkley's birthdays. "Cake Middleton" is made out of butter pound cake and Rice Krispies treats. Each layer of the cake is held in place with wood and dowel rods, and the whole thing has a system of PVC pipe to keep it stable. According to Moon, the cake can serve up to 2,000.

Royal baby doughnut specials

Both Dunkin Donuts and Krispe Kreme have special donuts to celebrate the new baby even though we are in America. Wait, are we supposed to care? We threw their tea in the sea, remember? Better question: Are the doughnuts free? Unfortunately no, but the Royal Baby Munchkins at Dunkins have pink and blue sprinkles (we guess they were covering their bases) and ice cream cakes via Baskin Robins. The Dunkin CEO is a dual citizen of the US and Britain, so this makes sense.

Always working to keep up with its competitor, Krispe Kreme has chocolate donuts with frosting in the shape of baby feet, and either pink or blue filling. 

Limited edition royal baby cheese

Aged over a year, this cheese has been a long time coming, apparently. It comes in small 7-ounce size or a 9 lb. deli wheel sold exclusively at Whole Foods in the United States. The official title is "Westminster Royal Addition Cheddar." That wheel of cheese weighs more than baby George, by the way, who clocked in at 8 lbs. 6 ounces. But they have the same amount of fuzz.

Royal family pizza

After a tough haul to welcome the little prince, Kate and Will ordered a pizza to celebrate. But it probably looked nothing like them. Scottish born Italian pizzamaker Domenico Crolla – who is a bit of a pizza artist with his Marilyn Monroe and Mona Lisa pizzas – fashioned a portrait of the royal family on a square of dough. Not much more can be said, but it looks delicious. We think he should auction it on eBay, that kind of stuff does well there. (Remember the Jesus Toast?)
