Barney's Version: movie review
The film, with standout performances from Paul Giamatti and Dustin Hoffman, will play for one Oscar-qualifying week this month.

“Barney’s Version,” adapted from the Mordecai Richler novel, has been turned into an overstuffed odyssey that, while disappointing on many levels, has standout performances by Paul Giamatti as low-rent Montreal TV producer and philanderer Barney Panofsky, and, in a supporting role, Dustin Hoffman as his incorrigible father. It plays for a one week Oscar-qualifying run in New York and Los Angeles and will be reviewed by me at length when it opens for a regular run when it opens Jan. 14. Grade: B (Unrated.)
