Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum has won the Iowa caucuses.

Twitter blew up with the news that Santorum bested Romney by a mere 34 votes. Santorum received 29,839 votes, compared with 29,805 for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, according to the Iowa Republican Party's certified results. There is some controversy - votes cast at eight precincts were actually lost. However, election night reporting showed those districts favoring Santorum by several dozen votes and so they would, at least reportedly, increase Santorum’s margin of victory.

First, let’s blast back to this tweet from Romney adviser Eric Fehrnstrom calling the Iowa/New Hampshire results historic:

Why many in Ukraine oppose a ‘land for peace’ formula to end the war

Now, Romney’s language has changed to say that the results are a “virtual tie” - although Romney was only ahead by eight votes while Santorum is up by 34.
