Paul Jackson: After 25 years on the lam, fugitive murder suspect nabbed
Paul Jackson caught: Authorities say they have arrested a fugitive who has been wanted since 1990 for kidnapping and raping women.
A fugitive wanted in connection with the kidnap and torture of two young women in Portland, Ore., was finally apprehended in Mexico after more than two decades on the lam.
Authorities arrested Paul Erven Jackson, who also used the name Paul Bennett Hamilton, after receiving a tip that he was living in Mexico.
The US Marshals Service working with the Mexican immigration authorities tracked down Mr. Jackson and arrested him on Monday while he was on his way to work at an electronics store in Guadalajara.
Jackson was featured recently on CNN's "The Hunt with John Walsh" which aired on July 26. A tip came in almost immediately after the episode aired, US Marshals Service Oregon Fugitive Task Force member Deputy Eric Wahlstrom told CNN.
"It was a specific tip that came in right after (the episode) aired that led authorities to him in Guadalajara," Deputy Wahlstrom said.
Police say Jackson and his older brother, Vance Roberts, kidnapped prostitutes, drove them to Mr. Roberts' home in Hillsboro and held them captive for days, The Oregonian reports.
The brothers are believed to be responsible for the kidnappings of 20-year-old Michaelle Dierich in 1988 and a 17-year-old in 1990. Police believe there may be additional victims who have not yet been discovered.
"The house was like a house of horrors, it was like a dungeon," victim Andrea Hood told CBS affiliate KOIN in a 1990 interview. "They kept me chained to the bed, my hands handcuffed to each corner, they had guns laying around."
The brothers were arrested in 1990 and their mother bailed them out. The two fled before their trial and neither of them was seen until 2006 when Roberts turned himself in to Hillsboro police and never gave any information about where his brother was hiding. He is currently serving a 108 year prison sentence for his crimes.
