Caroline Kennedy: Jury duty before ambassadorship?

Caroline Kennedy: Jury duty in New York City lies ahead for Caroline Kennedy. The only surviving child of President John F. Kennedy, Caroline Kennedy will serve on the jury in a case of an alleged crack cocaine dealer.

Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg will sit on a New York City jury for the trial of a man accused of dealing crack cocaine.

She was selected Monday to serve as a juror at the trial of Nelson Chatman in state Supreme Court in Manhattan.

Chaptman, 31, faces felony charges of selling crack cocaine. He was arrested on Dec. 1 on suspicion of dealing drugs near the corner of E. 129th St. and Lexington Ave. in East Harlem, New York. 

The only surviving child of President John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis didn't mention whether any member of her family had been a victim of a crime.

According to The New York Daily News, she said: “I have not been convicted of a crime,”

In describing herself, she said, “I live on the upper East Side. I’ve lived at my present address for 25 years. I live with my husband and two grown children. I have a law degree and I’m an author."When asked if she or a family member had close ties to law enforcement, Kennedy said her brother once worked as an assistant district attorney. The late John F. Kennedy Jr. had worked in the Manhattan DA's office.

In response to another question, she said she knew "a few people" with a drug problem.

Caroline Kennedy is widely reported to be on the short list as the Obama administration's next ambassador to Japan.  She also recently put two pieces of property on Martha's Vineyard up for sale.
