Lockdown lifted at American University

Authorities had a suspect in custody following reports of a gunman and a lockdown on the campus of the Washington D.C.-based university on Wednesday evening.

American University on Wednesday lifted a lockdown triggered by an unconfirmed report of a gunman on its campus in Washington, D.C. and a suspect was in custody, a university spokeswoman said.

The campus was on lockdown for about two hours while D.C. Metropolitan Police and the university's public safety department investigated the report, according to the university's website and D.C. police.

D.C. police said in a tweet that there were no injuries.

They took up arms to fight Russia. They’ve taken up pens to express themselves.

No details about the suspect were immediately available.
