Police say an officer has been wounded in a gun battle with a person who walked into a Los Angeles police station and opened fire.

Officer Sara Faden says the shooting happened about 8 p.m. Monday when someone with a gun entered the LAPD's West Traffic Division station and began firing.

The officer working at the front desk was hit once in the shoulder.

Faden says the officer returned fire and hit the shooter at least once.

Both were taken to a hospital, where their conditions were not immediately available.

Police didn't immediately have a motive for the shooting, which took place in the lobby of the station about seven miles west of downtown.
