He's come a long way.
Old digs: Modest one-bedroom, no interior doors, a sliver of a kitchen, a heating system that broke down all the time, according to his memoirs.
New crib: Stately 132-room mansion, 35 bathrooms, six levels. This gem's got 412 doors, 147 windows, 28 fireplaces, eight staircases, and three elevators (buh-bye third-floor walk-up). It comes with five full-time chefs, a tennis court, jogging track, swimming pool, movie theater, and bowling lane.
But that one's not for rent.
It's not 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., but Apartment 3E at 42 West 109th Street is still available, it's a steal for the area, and it's just a couple blocks to the subway.
Who knows where the next fortunate occupant might land 30 years later? At the very least, he or she might discover some of Obama's class notes hidden beneath a floorboard.
