Venus Williams will certainly remember the name Kimiko Date-Krumm for a while.
The veteran Japanese player had the American on the run Wednesday at Wimbledon before losing to the former ladies champion, 6-7, 6-3, 8-6.
The second round ladies match took place under the retractable roof on Center Court, due to rain showers. But covering the court and audience only seemed to energize Date-Krumm, especially in the first set, which she won by the score of 8-6.
However, the 23rd-seeded Venus rebounded strongly to take the second and grabbed an early cushion in the third before hanging on to defeat the determined challenger from Japan.
Williams will now take on Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain in the tournament's third round.
