A Peruvian court has convened to sentence Joran van der Sloot for the 2010 murder of a young woman he met at a Lima casino.
Prosecutors have asked for a 30-year sentence for first-degree murder and theft in the killing of Stephany Flores. She died five years to the day after the unsolved disappearance of U.S. teen Natalee Holloway on the Caribbean island of Aruba.
The 24-year-old Dutchman remains the prime suspect in the case and Holloway's parents want him extradited to the United States to be tried on related charges.
He pleaded guilty on Wednesday.
