Afghans in New Delhi seize embassy in protest
| New Delhi
Nearly 100 Afghan students seized the Afghanistan Embassy in New Delhi Wednesday, protesting the Soviet invasion of their homeland. They vowed that Afghans would retake their country from "Russian invaders." The unarmed students , shouting, "We will fight," tore down the Afghan national flag at the embassy and hoisted a green Islamic flag in its place.
The students, who occupied the embassy for six hours, released unharmed the embassy's consular, cultural, and military attaches, whom they had locked in a room while they sacked files and sprayed slogans in paint over the chancery, in a residential area of New Delhi.
