1,000 Afghans a day fleeing to Pakistan

An average of 1,000 refugees a day fled from Afghanistan to Pakistan during the last two weeks in December, a spokesman for the UN High Commission for Refugees reported Sunday.He said the flow was expected to increase this month following fighting between Soviet troops and rebel forces after the Soviet-backed coup in Kabul on Dec. 27.
