* The amazing 35-game unbeaten streak of the Philadelphia Flyers finally came to an end in Bloomington, Minnesota, as the red-hot North Stars erupted for a 7- 1 victory before a roaring, record crowd of 15,962 fans. Seven different Minnesota players scored the goals, with Greg Smith's unassisted tally at 14:25 of the opening period snapping a 1-1 tie and turning out to be the game-winner. Smith also had two assists to share overall scoring honors with Mike Eaves, who tallied the first North Star goal and also assisted on two others. Goaltender Gilles Meloche was beaten by Bill Barber early in the first period to give Philadelphia a short-lived 1-0 lead, but turned back 30 other Flyer shots. The streak, longest in professional sports history, began in Oct. 14 and included 25 victories and 10 ties.

The Flyers won their other two games to remain far ahead in the race for the National Hockey League's best overall record. Chicago (3-0) was the hottest team, while Los Angeles (1-0-2) pulled into a tie with still-slumping Montreal ( 1-2- 0) in their race.
